The Mucker - Fantasy-variant DJ for the Canaveral Press edition of 1963. The Canaveral
DJ uses a two-color version of the original St. John art done for the first and all other
editions published in ERB's lifetime. The original St. John art is delightful, one of his best,
but the Canaveral adaptation is a poor substitute, and I've never care for it. So, I've
developed a variant based on the St. John B&W illustration done for the frontispiece of the
first edition. To create the illusion of color, using the computer, I infused transparent
hues, building layer by layer halting only when I felt tone and value were correct, giving the
finished illustration a water-color look that I find esthetically pleasing. I hope you do too.
