Modest Stein did this illustration for the April 4, 1914, issue of ALL-STORY WEEKLY, a leading pulp of the day.
Each issue cost ten cents. I've always like both this painting and the one done by Stein for The Bandit of Hell's
Bend. Stein had a colorful background. He was a failed-assassin in the Anarchist Movement (no kidding!), for
